1-1 Mentoring Client Letter

Amid all the chaos comes the hotel financial leadership progress that makes this recovery something special…read this short and inspiring note from a former client.

Dear David,

Long time we did not talk. How are you? is your family and you all safe ? Hope no one lost his job.

How the business is going?

On my side, business was better than expected in July and looks even better in August.

Of course it is not great figures but we reached twice 50% occupancy. For July we made 30.9%, what we did not expect. We were forecasting at 25%.

August we forecast 35% and we have now 24% OTB. Not that bad within the actual circumstances.

F&B: we have the lobby bar which works ok. Not crazy but correctly.

The 2 Michelin Stars is open 4 nights a week only but packed at 60 covers every night. Good.

The café in the shopping mall was doing 45% revenue less than usual at same time of the year but starts to improve since 2 weeks.

Anyway we are preparing a plan to reduce staff…making calculation in the next weeks to come. Not the funniest.

But my pride is not in better results…but in the fact that I dedicated some time to train a part of my managers to P&L with no figures hidden. And we reviewed revenue, expenses “deeply” line by line, with calculation of EFTE and productivity.

They discovered another world and guess what…on 1st of August I had one of my managers to send me his month end comments with variances of his revenues, revenue per cover, hours worked vs N-1 and…EFTE and productivity.

And by the way, he discovered that vs. last year, with 30% staff less…in July his team was less productive (after being super productive in June! :):)

He was a bit vexed!! Ahahah :):)
That’ s an achievement for me.
